You are officially a homeowner! Before you can fully settle in, there are a few important things to wrap up after purchasing your home.

Helpful tips / reminders:

* Confirm within 3-6 weeks after closing you have received your warranty deed in the mail.

This shows that the county has recorded the document that was signed by the seller, giving you ownership of the property you purchased

* Call your local municipality (city, township, etc.) or check online shortly after closing to make sure that they received the Property Transfer Affidavit and Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit that was completed at closing.

These two documents show the transfer of ownership from the seller to you and also places the homestead property taxes (lesser tax amount) on the property if it is your principal residence

* Expect a copy of your homeowner’s insurance policy and title policy to be sent to you via mail.

Your realtor will help you with providing contact information for your utilities, trash, water and other items that should be completed before and/or after your closing
